The Institute of Science and Technology for Deep Space Exploration at Nanjing University is one of the first research institutes established at the Suzhou campus of Nanjing University. The institute focuses on addressing national major mission needs in the field of aerospace science and technology as well as the development needs of the Suzhou aerospace industry. It conducts fundamental and innovative research and aims to become an internationally influential talent hub and innovation center in the field of deep space exploration. The institute, supported by Nanjing University's Department of Astronomy and managed by the School of Frontier Sciences, currently focuses on research in areas such as the Sun-Earth space environment and space weather, planetary science, exploration of solar system and extra-solar system bodies, as well as the development and scientific application of space science and space astronomy payloads.

The institute leverages the discipline advantages of Nanjing University's astronomy, the platform advantages of the Ministry of Education's key laboratories, and the strengths of the Jiangsu Province Higher Education "Astronomy and Space Science Practical Education Center." The institute focuses on the research of the Sun-Earth space environment and space weather, exploration and research of solar system bodies and extra-solar system bodies, as well as the development of payloads and scientific systems for deep space exploration missions. The institute has a clear development idea, guided by cutting-edge technology, supported by major engineering projects, and integrating education and research. Through mission implementation, scientific leadership, and payload development, it satisfies the national and local needs, with the ultimate goal of establishing moral character and educating individuals while promoting national technological self-reliance and strength.
